10 Wedding Day-of Facts No One Tells You For Some Reason

No matter how many weddings you’ve attended before, or how many times you’ve been a bridesmaid, there are some things you just don’t find out about until your wedding day.

Talk to anyone who’s gone through it before and they’ll tell you that your wedding day absolutely flies by. You’ll be so busy going from one thing to the next that before you know it, you’ll be cutting the cake. You may already know that you need an emergency kit (just in case), that it can be difficult to use the bathroom in your ball gown, and to pack a stain remover. But aside from the logistics, there are tons of intangible, special moments that make up the wedding day itself.

Here, 10 truths about the wedding day that no one ever talks about.

Source

1. Ten minutes before the ceremony is the most nerve-racking part.

The time leading up to the walk down the aisle will be the most anxiety-ridden 10 minutes you’ll ever have. And it makes sense — you’re about to make a life-changing decision in front of all the people you love and care about the most. Just remember that your other half is waiting for you at the end of the journey and you’re going to have a huge party to celebrate (not to mention the reason why you said “yes” in the first place).

2. The ceremony is the best part.

There’s something truly amazing about the wedding ceremony. The traditions, the vows and all your emotional family members and friends make it one of the most special moments of your life. Our advice? Take it all in and drink it up. You’ll want these memories to last a lifetime.

3. You’ll definitely cry.

Okay, this one might not be such a secret — all we can say is that crying is basically inevitable. And since you already know the waterworks are coming, the best thing to do is just be prepared. Store some tissues nearby, and if you’re a bride, make sure to wear waterproof makeup (or even get eyelash extensions) and keep some mascara and lipstick readily available for quick touch-ups.

4. Your face will hurt from smiling so much.

Thousands of pictures aside, you’ll be smiling all day because it’s going to be the best day ever. You’re marrying your best friend, after all! Between finally “making it official” with your partner and dancing like crazy with all of your close friends and family, there’s literally no reason to frown (even if it rains).

There’s so much that goes into planning the big day that sometimes it can be hard to even imagine how all the pieces will even come together. But trust me, they do. And that’s one of the main reasons we love weddings so much. Seeing it all come together is beyond awesome. Even after going to literally hundreds of weddings, it’s still great to see.

Boho Wedding

[Boho Wedding originally published by Dow Oak Events]
“So we were scrambling for a DJ last minute. Thank goodness Dow Oak Events had an opening! They did a great job of communicating and making the planning of our night easy and simple. Words can not describe how amazing DJ Kameron Utterback was for our wedding. She was so friendly and accommodating for us. She kept everyone at our wedding dancing the entire time and did an outstanding job being our MC. I would highly recommend her for you next wedding DJ.” –The Knot

Party Time

Marissa and Brandon were so sweet and caring. This was a very enjoyable and memorable wedding. Everyone in attendance was so amazing. The friends and family rallied around this couple from near and far to make sure the day was perfect! It was such a pleasure to be a part of.

When everyone is on the same page, it completely shows. It’s just obvious. When the bride and groom, vendors, and guests are all trying to not only dance and have fun, but make the day amazing for the couple, everyone can tell. It creates a vibe everybody there can feel. And that’s what we shoot for. So it was awesome to be able to be a part of this. We absolutely had a good time, and we know the newlyweds did too.

Big and Small

These two little ladies had the most fun! They partied all night long!! Dakota Hersey Photography took some amazing shots throughout the entire day. Catching the raw emotion is such a gift and this company did a wonderful job. There were also some awesome photos of Marissa and Brandon first dance. And also of the Mother/Son dance and the Father/Daughter dance. As the family and friends gathered around to see Marissa and Brandon off to begin their new life together, you could feel the love. They are such a beautiful couple, inside and out!

Enjoy your love and life as much as you enjoyed your wedding and you guys will be set. Here’s to many more memories and good times for years to come!

Final Thoughts

There were so many things we could say about this day. In the end though, what’s important is the happiness of the newlyweds. That’s absolutely what we care about the most! And let me tell you, they were happy.

We’ve learned that being a wedding DJ isn’t just about playing music. So we take our role seriously. Facilitating such a big day is a serious job! That’s why we always give every wedding or event our all.

And as a final note, we just need to say… We absolutely love what we do. Being a part of the unique and personal ways couples celebrate is why we do it. And we loved being a part of this celebration. It’s always awesome to see how couples choose to celebrate.

A Ska Couple's Unique First Dance

Avid ska fans and recently married couple Judy Gillespie and Leonard Roth capped off their wedding celebration last night with their very first skank as husband and wife, mostly confused sources confirmed.

“Ever since I was a little girl skanking alone in my bedroom, I wished that someone, someday, would come along and sweep me off my black-and-white checkered low-tops,” said Gillespie. “Some friends ask how I can commit to skanking with just one person for the rest of my life… but I just smile, knowing I found the rude boy of my dreams.”

Groom Leonard Roth agreed, exhilarated to share the special moment skanking with Gillespie “in front of God and everyone we hold dear.”

“That first dance, to ‘Johnny Quest Thinks We’re Sellouts’ by Less Than Jake, was just magical,” said Roth. “Everything about this wedding’s been amazing — and we saved a ton of money outfitting my groomsmen, because I already owned a bunch of black suits and suspenders.”

I can’t help but think weddings like this are awesome. Even though I’m not as avid a ska fan as these two (I don’t know if anyone is), it’s awesome they made the wedding so personal. It’s easy to get caught up in the “supposed to’s” of wedding planning, so it’s cool to see a couple take a step away from that and really do their own thing (even if new fathers-in-law don’t approve).

A T-Rex in Whitsett?

“We literally couldn’t keep people off the dancefloor. And I even had family and friends telling me after how much they loved the music! I truly did not know what to expect but I was blown away! Dow Oak Events was a godsend!! Would totally recommend them, 5 stars!” –WeddingWire

Living in the Moment

It warms our heart seeing all ages out on the dance floor living in the moment! That’s definitely what was going on at this wedding. There’s an art to playing hits that young and old can get down to. Luckily, that’s something we’ve got some practice in. So we kept the hits coming. From Jackson 5 and Bob Seger to Usher and JT, we kept the vibe going.

We honestly couldn’t keep people off the dance floor. This was definitely a gang that was trying to dance. And that makes it fun for us too.

Awesome Memories

These photos are amazing. Russell-Killen photography did such a great job capturing the moments Lindsay and Dylan will remember for a lifetime. You can definitely see the mood of the night in the photos, too. Here’s to many more memories and years of happiness to come!

The Hideaway is definitely a very cool venue as well. We were driving down a winding road and ended up in the woods at the ceremony spot. It was a super unique spot, and that’s something we appreciate. Seeing how different couples choose to celebrate their big days in individual ways is one of the reasons we love what we do. And this was definitely unique in an awesome way.

Final Thoughts

We’re lucky to be in the business we’re in. That’s not something we forget. However, there are certain weddings that remind us why we got into this in the first place. Both this couple and these vendors reminded us this time. Without reservation, we would say that this was an all around amazing time.

And as a final note, we just need to say… We absolutely love what we do. Being a part of the unique and personal ways couples celebrate is why we do it. And we loved being a part of this celebration. It’s always awesome to see how couples choose to celebrate.

Bridal First Look Prank Shocks Groom

Nothing is as pure and genuine as the look on a groom’s face after he first lays eyes on his… best buddy in a wedding dress?

A bride-to-be in Kentucky recruited her beau’s best man to help play a prank on her soon-to-be husband by having him act as a stand-in during their first look.

“I was building with anticipation the whole time I was outside waiting,” the unsuspecting groom told Fox News. (Kristina Herman/K. Herman Photography)

Luckily for her, the best man was completely game.

“When Megan asked me to do this prank on Logan there was no way I could turn it down,” Ryan Sowder told Fox News of the bride’s request ahead of her July 19 nuptials.

The prank worked like a charm, too, catching groom Logan Martin completely by surprise.

I like this light-hearted approach to the wedding day. There’s moments in a wedding that are meant to be more serious, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for laughter.

This One Got Wild!

[This One Got Wild originally published by Dow Oak Events]
“Freddie was absolutely amazing! The timing of the ceremony music was spot on and the music throughout the reception transitioned perfectly! We received many compliments on the music and I highly recommend Dow Oak Events & Freddie!” –Google

Amazing Venue

Alright, alright, alright! This is what we love to see! You can tell by the photos below, taken by Muir Photography, this was a good time. The Harvest House did an amazing job with the venue, catering and the cake. This is definitely somewhere we hope we can come back to in the very near future.

The flowers were absolutely stunning. Summer Fresh Flower Farm did a fabulous job! The whole place looked amazing decked out with all these floral arrangements. Combined with the venue, it made for a phenomenal looking night.

Amazing Music

DJ Freddie was definitely killing it. This is another one of those photos that hits a special spot in DJ’s hearts. Just seeing everyone singing and dancing and really being in the moment is amazing to see.
Everyone here was definitely feeling it. We had folks of all ages tearing it up on the dance floor. And that makes the night enjoyable for everyone. It really shows a DJs skills when everyone, young and old, are on the dance floor having a great time. And that was something we definitely saw a lot of here!

Thank you for the fun and love that will fuel many more weddings for us! You all are amazing! Everyone in attendance! Here’s to many more years of love!

Final Thoughts

It’s a mark of a good DJ to be able to play music that everyone can dance to. No matter what individual tastes are, there are songs that everyone loves. And to be able to mix those songs into guest requests is a skill. A skill that we pride ourselves on.

And as a final note, we just need to say… We absolutely love what we do. Being a part of the unique and personal ways couples celebrate is why we do it. And we loved being a part of this celebration. It’s always awesome to see how couples choose to celebrate.

In conclusion, we’ve learned that being a wedding DJ isn’t just about playing music. So we take our role seriously. Facilitating such a big day is a serious job! That’s why we always give every wedding or event our all.

A VERY Long Wedding Train

Before the wedding bells, came the whistles.

And instead of a single wedding carriage getting him to his bride, on Chris Drew’s big day, he counted on a lineup of the most powerful carriages around.

On Saturday (June 22), he and his five groomsmen headed to Scarborough’s Guildwood Inn, where he would tie the knot with his soon to be wife, Farah Tamachi.

But there’s another love story at play here.

Chris Drew exits a GO train on his way to his wedding ceremony. (Photo by Nitish Bissonauth)
Drew and his bride planned a traditional Indian wedding and typically the groom relies on a horse to get to his venue. In this case, he put his trust in a 4000 — horsepower GO train.

“Of course I would take the train — it’s not even a question,” said Drew, a Toronto urban planner.
“I couldn’t picture myself getting to my wedding any other way and I didn’t want to knock my turban off my head coming in and out of a vehicle.”

Drew has been a transit advocate and a train enthusiast his whole life. When most kids would ask to go to the movies or Disneyland, he wanted to watch trains go by. Growing up, he took transit everywhere he went — determined to make sure his wedding day was no different.

When The Cows Came Home

“Would so so so so SO recommend Dow Oak Events to anyone looking for a fantastic DJ. All of it went so great. The ceremony, the reception, the dancing, all of it! I honestly don’t have more to say except: BOOK THEM!!” –The Knot

There Was Dancing

There’s a reason we’re in the business we’re in. We have a good time when we see everybody having a good time. And this wedding had a whole lotta good times.

We’ve seen people getting down on the dance floor. We see it very frequently. But this time… we can safely say that people were getting down. I mean, look at these pictures. There were so many of everyone tearing up the dance floor that it was honestly hard to pick just a few.

Coming Together

Seeing two families come together is absolutely awesome. But seeing them dancing together is even more awesome. We honestly were sad at the end of the night when the dancing came to an end. Everyone involved was throwing down hard and just having an all-out good time. And that’s what we like to see.

You can totally see what we’re talking about in these pics, too. Will Greene Photography really did such a great job of capturing all the exuberance of this evening.

We had a great time at this venue, too. We’ve always enjoyed traveling around Raleigh seeing all of the unique venues and meeting new people. This was definitely a cool one. It used to be a cattle ranch but has since been transformed into a super unique venue.

A huge thanks to everyone who worked with us to make this a great night!

Final Thoughts

We see a lot of cool venues across North Carolina. We even see a lot of cool venues in Raleigh. Honestly, we didn’t expect this one to be as cool as it was. From the ease of setting up to the venue coordinators, everything came together so well.

And as a final note, we just need to say… We absolutely love what we do. Being a part of the unique and personal ways couples celebrate is why we do it. And we loved being a part of this celebration. It’s always awesome to see how couples choose to celebrate.

Blind Bride Gets A Different Kind of Photo Album

If you’re a wedding photographer, how do you serve a client who has absolutely no eyesight? A photographer and videographer over in Australia recently teamed up to create a special tactile wedding photo album for their blind bride.

Photographer James Day and videographers Shaun and TJ of Lemon Tree Film House shot the wedding of a couple named Steph and Rob.

Steph has a condition called Cone Rod Dystrophy. It’s an inherited eye disorder that progressed until she became completely blind shortly before she first met her future husband, Rob.

To create a wedding video Steph could cherish, Lemon Tree Film House worked to capture as much audio and narrative on the wedding day as possible.

“James and ourselves would describe, as much as possible, every little detail to Steph from the direction of the sun, to the landscape, expressions on loved ones faces, how beautiful Steph looked in her dress,” the videographers say, “and every time we described a scene to Steph we were reminded just how lucky we are to be able to see those details with our own eyes, how we take our vision for granted every day as we look into our lover’s eyes, watch our children grow, ocean waves roll and the sun rise and set each day.”

Day also came up with the idea of presenting Steph with 10 pieces of fabric throughout the day that were each infused with a different essential oil. By feeling and smelling the fabrics afterward, Steph was instantly brought back to those special moments during her wedding.

Every wedding is a unique affair. That’s part of what makes them great, honestly. But this is definitely one that would have been extra awesome to witness.
